    Off-topic posts on dev threads...

    In response to the posts about wanting the "fun" atmosphere back on the dev threads.

    Well, here's another perspective: I have a full time job, a wife, and a baby on the way. I don't have time to read 4 pages every two hours of posts that don't have anything to do with this rom, of which the title of the thread refers to. I think dev communities are great and I have some friends that I've met through these communities but I chat with them on Gtalk about non-rom stuff and not on a thread that has a purpose. If I want to read a thread to see if there's a rom update or a patch, then have to dig through 4 pages of unrelated stuff it makes it very difficult to keep up on the development. Especially when there are other places for it, i.e. general and off-topic forums. When I posted a few days ago it was not to offend or cause drama, but simply to try to keep the thread on topic so I don't get fired (or sent to the dog house by the wife) for spending too much time on a forum reading non-related stuff. It sounds like I'm alone on this opinion which is confusing to me, but that's the way it is. I apologize if I've offended anyone.

    Newtoroot and the rest of the Mik team: Thank you very much for all you do.

    @All
    well... the main reason this site is even up is because the "one thread" idea like xda, and many more sites have, is simply not enough.
    @Marhey
    i agree with u on that part... we should all try to stay on topic.. a few comments every now and then is ok... but a full on chat session in a thread is a bad idea... trust me i know... when i first made my mikfroyo rom a while back on xda i had so run through 30 pages a day to even try to keep up, and its not always fun.

    @All
    just in case u guys missed it btw... there is a new chat feature on the site (the bottom bar) which can be even linked to your gmail and facebook chat at the same time... so u guys can start to add friends and chat using that bar... or even start a chat room.
    its a really cool chat bar also cuz u guys can send each other files and more which saves me personally a lot of time if i need someone to test something real quick cuz i dont need to upload it to any place i just send it using the chat.

    i hope u guys really dont think some moderators came down on u.... cuz that was not the case here... it just makes sense to try and stay on topic where the topic is.

    here is the thing... i know that most of us are used to the "single thread for all info about a rom" kinda thing... i was hoping that on this site it will work out diff since thats what we trying to do here for our users.
    that is why all sections are rom specific... so when u guys look for a theme/mod/bug u will know where to find it by checking out that rom's forum and wont need to start asking if it works or not.
    yes, i know sometimes its a lil more work for u and us to keep track of things since its not all in 1 thread since we gotta look for it in a few places... but it keeps things in place so that we wont need to scan through a couple of thousands of pages to find 1 tiny post about some issue, here, i would hope that each issue will get a thread until its solved instead of just 1 post.

    i hope i kinda get through to u guys about how i think it should kinda run here.

    First off, You guys rock. It has been wonderful to be involved in a community mostly devoid of punks. The general atmosphere here has been like a laid back bar. Very fun. But I can understand where you're coming from 100%. I mainly participate in the forums of 1 rom for 1 phone, (which it seems most people in that forum are doing), and my poor wife thinks I want to leave her and run off with my dinc2. I can't imagine how much reading the devs, admins, and mods must have to do to keep up with several roms for several phones.
    So, just know I hear ya and totally respect what you want this place to be.

    I can understand people's desire to have a unified place to discuss things, both common things and things relative to the ROMs themselves...

    I can also understand the desire/need for a developer to utilize the tools that this site has to offer, particularly relating to debugging and suggestions in general, and I agree with aamikam in it's benefit in providing structure that you just don't have on a site that is as gigantic as xda which really doesn't offer developers good tools or an efficient way to make their roms better overall

    I'm trying my best to come up with a compromise for it, I think that the chit-chat thread is working pretty well really but I suppose we could always take a multi-tiered approach. The good thing is we're on a phone forum, which is already an advantage given that we're on a forum dedicated to devices that have multiple potential forms of communication.
