can't get flashlight

Ok so I'm still totally stock here while I break in the phone and verify that there are no hardware malfunctions with it. I will s-off and root in a few weeks.

I'm not 100% impressed at the moment with the 3G speeds or the battery life, though cho seems to suggest that data speeds will improve with radio updates, and battery life will get better as well (that's a whole separate thread).

One other thing missing is the flashlight app. I did a google search and every hit seems to suggest that I can just download it from the HTC Hub. Here is one such example:

When I go into that app and tap on Applications all I get are a bunch of apps that are available in the play store (ES file explorer, BBC News, TripAdvisor, etc.). There is no such "Categories" option or anything of that nature. I have gone into the menu and tried both "Settings" and "Edit tabs" options but cannot enable this Categories thing.

Is it the same apk file from the OG Evo? If so I can just adb pull it and install that way. I would prefer to use some "official" method for getting it on the ELTE in case it has changed...just don't want to break anything.

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I think they changed the Hub and I couldn't find it any more, so I got it off a different ELTE that still had it installed. Here's the .apk that I have:

p.s. Does that little popup show up every time you open the app? The one that tells you what to do? On that version, I couldn't get rid if that for some reason.

No, the popup only showed up the first time. I just checked it and it worked fine with no message.

That's really strange. I assume that you tried clearing data, wiping caches, and/or reinstalling the .apk file and it still didn't fix it?

I don't know why that would happen. I assume it stores the data with the app so that once it has launched the first time it probably sets a flag somewhere that it is no longer the first run. Seems like clearing the data/cache for the app in manage applications might make it come back, but I don't know why it would display it every time without doing something along those lines.

Yeah, I thought the same. I think it went away for a while then came back. Either way, it's gone now, so it's all good.
