The whole rom is the OTA. If you just wipe Cache and Dalvik cache then flash the rom you won't lose any settings. If you just flash the kernel/boot.img you phone won't work, it needs the corresponding rom/base.

It would be, true, but it wouldn't work without the stock recovery. That's why I took the firmware out.

It's possible it would work with just the boot.img in there, but I'd have to test that out.
